RECORDINGS
FEBRUARY 7
James 1:1-2— Introduction to the Epistle of James!
We learn that “James” is actually the same name as “Jacob”—connecting us back all the way to Genesis. James is written at a time of great persecution and temptation for the Church. How can James bring the churches of Jerusalem through it?
FEBRUARY 14
James 1
James is writing to Christians in persecution, tempted to reflect the wrath they have received. But James wants them to receive Christ instead—the implanted Word that will save them.
FEBRUARY 21
James 1-2
James sharpens his words to these persecuted pastors. And to us today, the message is still clear: mercy is most precious. Not safety, not equality, not our rights. The mercy of Jesus is all that matters in the end.
FEBRUARY 28
James 1-2
Faith without works is dead. James likens faith to a body, and works to the breath of that body—you can’t have one without the other. And these works that animate our faith are not the works of this world; they are the works of Jesus himself.
APRIL 11
James 3
James is addressed to pastors in crisis. Their congregations are being persecuted, and they are tempted to meet persecution with persecution. But that is not the way of Christ, or his martyrs.
APRIL 18
James 4-5
The old priesthood still in power in Jerusalem has refused and persecuted Christ and his Church. The Church is the new priesthood—but their power is made perfect in weakness. It is in their very suffering that they become ‘anointed.’
